Language Efficiency

Almost every candidate who comes to me expresses inability to talk fluently and asks instantly, in how many months they can become fluent? Actually efficiency in any language can be acquired by constant practice within a short span of time. In learning any language reading has a very vital role resulting in fast learning as well accuracy, even to express ourselves in many a ways.

I recall being fussy in reading English books and always running behind my mother for translating the stories. My father who somehow always seemed very rigid, frowned and ordered to read at least thrice for better  understanding. Though not at all willing I had to go through but lo and behold! I could enjoy reading the story step by step unfolding before my eyes an unseen wonderful world and the experience was simply spellbinding!! From that day I found myself surprisingly very very willing to visit the library and also I turned out to be an avid reader.

My father also insisted on not referring often to the dictionaries for meanings as in our brain so many unseen devices are installed that after reading a particular passage we could guess the meaning somehow but if kept on depending on the dictionaries definitely our brain capacity would be always limited. I found lots of involvement in reading, as was not much extrovert it kept me quite engaged from silly things as well, which now too seems a boon. I could easily spare time more than average children for reading books though my schedules were never flexible, my mother being not able to work normally for quite a long time due to health. Never I could feel difficulty in studies despite very less time to study. Reading habit made me confident.

One day my English miss forced me to stand and explain a few grammar points to the class though I was in 9th I found my legs under knees trembling despite my efforts to have a control. Why? I lacked boldness. Knowledge is not enough, we should have bold and positive attitudes too. I felt really ashamed in class of almost 45 students. that very moment I was determined to change my stupidity and become exceptionally bold contrary to my image. I tried constantly to talk in English but my mind didn't support excellently due to lack of confidence. Gradually but I could note the changes in my attitude and slowly I gained confidence. Though brilliant I had faced so much difficulty that I decided to help the poor classmates who lacked English knowledge and shuddered even to think of attending exams. In this way I trained myself to be positive, bold and confident of my potentials.

Today when I remember how hard I struggled to express myself I just smile, but thank my teacher for motivating me for excellence in language, though in a bit harsh manner, as things told softly have less impacts on mind generally. People grow an unseen fear over any subject initially when they feel fear for any particular teacher and then they don't feel interested and gradually become dull in those subjects. To motivate children the teachers must stimulate them in positive manner and also show them innovative methods to learn with zest.

I get many candidates some even teaching in various schools but except the concerned subject they lack efficiency. It's easy to stimulate interest in younger than grown candidates. They develop certain amount of inferiority complex and avoid to face public events. Though not confident many have intelligence, slowly after attending a few sessions they feel more confident and try to express their views. It's the best time to make them feel happy in every situation where exposure is essential. After a few months they prepare to communicate in groups and succeed in winning applauds.

I just wonder why in younger classes we can't stimulate these candidates. Nowadays every school promises to focus on holistic growth of children and parents also allured admit their wards but in every class we can spot a few learners having indifferent attitudes towards learning. Summer holidays are much awaited to get a break from regular somewhat mediocre activities but if given timely attention many students get a change as they need not worry for the tests and marks.

Every year in summer luckily am training children who find studies a difficult task and try their level best to deceive parents. Within a short period of 15 days surprisingly they develop interest and reciprocate genuinely. I impart coaching without any writing work only through playful activities. Vocabulary building, word games, prefix & suffix, antonyms & synonyms, number games just to prove studying procedure can capture minds if given with little care and understanding their psychology. I am proud to say today I have more than 50 such candidates who ran from classes but now are eagerly waiting for learning. Teaching is the most wonderful profession but you must "Handle with Care" likewise parents too need to take care and stimulate kids for being good in every sense so as our efforts bring out their BEST.

Every language has a beauty and it comes with reading regularly. Pronunciation, expressions, idioms and phrases, proverbs and so many words need to be used accurately and it can be learnt with constant practice only. Reading loud and silently has many benefits which a learner can obtain gradually in a span of time. 

Often I get candidates from various states thus their pronunciation differ and it's quite tough to point out especially when they have done PG. As a teacher I have to correct their speech. Reading aloud is the best method as without any inhibitions within a few weeks they easily understand how to adapt correct ways and also I succeed to inculcate regular reading habit which improves intonation to great extent. Gradually the learners pronunciation, voice quality,  knowledge, attitude and observation improve automatically and they become confident in group discussions. Even in debating they show good self-control. In schools loud reading must be included as an activity to stimulate interest in reading various types of books in childhood. it would benefit the learners in many a ways like Increased attentiveness, vocabulary improvement, bold approach and self confidence. While attending interviews in future the students would note the impacts.At every stage a learner has some inhibitions which need to be tackled patiently so as the outcome is good. Timely stimulation not only enhances interest also helps in maintaining a good strength in schools of in between dropouts. So many candidates show bright performance in work while in studies they simply lack enthusiasm. Anything given in proper junctures and dose has great value and all the teachers need pay little attention and concern in shaping these unpolished gems.

Teaching is the only profession where a strong bondage can be felt above every relationship and it has great influence over the student's minds if handled with little kindness. I can see the innocent faces behind their insecurity and low self esteem. Every teacher has a role in some or the other student's life, why can't we put life in our role?  I still remember my teachers with a reverence for motivating and helping in many a ways to make us study, due to their help only today I have a charitable attitude so indirectly teachers seed good characteristics in the tender minds.

Nowadays parents as well teachers have enthusiastic attitude towards including many things for the children's holistic growth and it's worth applauds, the passion for learning languages starts initially when kids sleep in mom's lap listening to the stories which nowadays not possible due to working moms tight schedule. It may not be easy but surely it can be opted in various styles from the wide range available very easily. While the minds are lulled to sleep the seed for learning is sown automatically in the tender minds. We all have a bent towards listening so the task becomes easy. In schools regular library hours can be  given importance. Loud reading practice also can be helpful.

I remember starting reading books very early, thanks to my parents as it helped in improving language efficiency without any special efforts. Every child loves colorful pictures and in early age if picturesque books are given surely they would become good learners in later age. Instead of gifting toys books can be given importance to stimulate interest. Little efforts bring tremendous changes.
