Disability A boon Not Hindrance
Disability word itself brings a picture in our mind and creates sympathy but I feel proud to list out a few people who proved themselves many folds able than normal people so as to show and prove nothing can deter a person if a strong will is there and a desire to do something different. I have seen such people have very minute observation and it seems their normal organs work with double efficiency as if to compensate their lack.
In Trichy a special school for visually challenged successfully gave 100% results in public exams isn't it worth applaud? I purchase regularly sandal products from a visually challenged person who is no less than me. In Bombay I have seen people going to office on their own and do all their jobs themselves.
Its actually in the way they are trained, instead of sympathizing we must train them in adequate manner to help make them independent and positive minded not dependent and full of complex.
One day I was waiting for bus and beside me a visually challenged gentleman too waited, he asked me time and I told him 6 though it was 5 mins to 6. I think he had some calculations to utilize time, immediately he opened the dial and touched the needles and told me unhappily I was incorrect and its still 5 mins for 6 pm. I felt really ashamed as it was my mistake. In such small things we are careless but he opened my eyes and taught me value of time. We don't realize the values of our eyes.
Helen Keller lost sight but she proved to be extra talented and till date we remember her with reverence. I think she has done so much that can defeat certainly any normal person.
Wilma Rudolph also was such a wonderful Olympic champion, the doctor had told she won't walk whereas she proved to be a runner. A person should have self confidence, positive attitude and of course a burning desire combined with painstaking efforts to become an outstanding person, nothing can deter strong decisions.
By sympathizing we spoil their attitude and tend to mislead them, their efforts need our appreciation and guidance but in no way we should be a hurdle in their progress and skills. Nowadays they are given special training also to opt any profession of their calibre.
You can see so many of people engaged in jobs and business successfully. We need to change and opt a healthy attitude to treat them equally. To have sympathy is good but to show sympathy unnecessarily is not good. Actually by our sympathy what they gain? They feel really hurt. Instead we can pay profusely if we take any sort of work from them or help to make them financially independent.
Unfortunately we are so generous in extending helping hand that unknowingly end up in growing the count of beggars which must be brought down as its a shameful thing, behind the screen many people are turning millionaires and indulge in illegal trades like trafficking.
In many families one child maybe different or lacking normal growth, in such circumstances parents feel bad for the child whereas don't even think about its individuality at all. I have seen some children labelled as low mental growth but even they respond in perfectly normal way if treated with love and care. A friend was working and has a son who though appeared to be 8 but is of 15. When given food in irritating manner by someone of the family he stubbornly refuses to accept and loves to be fed by his elder sister, thus proves his emotional strength. We tend to underestimate I think.
If at all we have real sympathy with them we can be kind and helpful in many a ways especially by not being rude to them. There are so many special institutions especially for such children you can share your time with them, on special days you can give them some happy moments by gifting something. We need not do charity on very high level but in our day-to-day schedule certainly like we would do for our children little bit we can do for these specially gifted children and see their inner joy in their sparkling innocent eyes shining bright. Where else you would get this type of true happiness, it is said that God is present in every live being!!
Love is the only thing which can change the entire scenario, and grows in many folds, why not try!!
